ABOUT US

Koryu Ju-Jitsu Association — Wallasey, England

Our Mission

The Koryu Ju-Jitsu Association was established with a single purpose: to grow and preserve the interest in Association JuJitsu in the Wirral area and beyond. We believe that traditional Japanese martial arts offer immense value — not just as a system of combat, but as a path to discipline, confidence, physical fitness, and mental resilience.

Our club is a public group open to all who wish to learn. Whether you have trained for years or are stepping onto the mat for the very first time, you will find a welcoming, structured, and safe training environment at our dojo.

The association is run by dedicated instructors and administrators who are passionate about the art and committed to the development of every student. We hold classes every Monday evening, with separate sessions designed specifically for Juniors and Seniors.

WHAT IS ASSOCIATION JUJITSU?

— Understanding the art we teach —

Ancient Origins

Ju-Jitsu (also written Jujutsu or Jiu-Jitsu) is one of the oldest Japanese martial arts, with roots stretching back over a thousand years to the samurai warriors of feudal Japan. It was developed as a battlefield system encompassing strikes, throws, joint locks and groundwork.

Koryu Tradition

“Koryu” refers to the classical, traditional schools of Japanese martial arts that predate the modern era. Koryu Ju-Jitsu maintains the authentic techniques and philosophy of these old schools, emphasising practical application and martial effectiveness above sport competition.

Today’s Practice

Modern Association JuJitsu blends traditional techniques with structured grading systems and safe, controlled training methods. Students learn throws, arm locks, chokes, breakfalls, and combinations — developing both physical ability and mental focus.
